Scholarship Opportunity
Omar Scholarship
Marian (Omar) Jacklin, Archaeologist with Dixie National Forest, was one of the first people to come on board with implementing the Color Country Natural Resource Camp in 1994. For over 20 years, Omar taught students about the archaeological resources in this area and the value of other cultures.
Working with kids and youth was very important to her and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the past with students. With a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Archaeology from Brigham Young University, she excavated and surveyed her way across much of the western United States and even dug in Syria in the 1980s.
Omar was always cheerful and willing to lend a hand. She loved helping students gain an appreciation of natural resources through anthropology, archaeology, and photography. Omar passed away in 2017 and her presence at the camp is greatly missed. In honor of Omar, the Color Country Natural Resource Camp awards a $500 scholarship to one attendee each year that exemplifies qualities that Omar brought to the camp: leadership, participation, enthusiasm, and kindness.
In addition to the scholarship, there are several camp fee waivers available.
